The five properties, previously owned by Morgan’s Canoe and Outdoor Adventures, will be transferred to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources (ODNR), Division of Natural Areas and Preserves for long-term stewardship.

This project, made possible through the support of the Susanne Geier Peters Foundation, represents a significant milestone in the protection and preservation of the Little Miami River, a nationally recognized scenic and recreational treasure. The Geier family has a long history of working alongside the Little Miami Conservancy (LMC) and the Morgan family to safeguard this vital natural resource, and this acquisition will help ensure the continued protection of the river and its surrounding lands.

A Legacy of Stewardship

For the past 60 years, the Morgan family has played a pivotal role in providing access and stewardship of the Little Miami River through Morgan’s Canoe and Outdoor Adventures. To honor this legacy, the Little Miami Conservancy will transfer the properties to the ODNR, ensuring their protection for future generations. The collaboration between the Little Miami Conservancy, Susanne Geier Peters Foundation, the Morgan family, and ODNR will help preserve the Little Miami River, maintaining its pristine beauty and accessibility.

“We are honored to continue this legacy of conservation, ensuring that future generations will be able to enjoy and appreciate the Little Miami River for decades to come,” said Jason Brownknight, Executive Director of the Little Miami Conservancy. “The generosity of the Susanne Geier Peters Foundation and the Morgan family’s dedication to stewardship has been invaluable in making this project possible.”

A Message from the Morgan Family

The Morgan’s family legacy of conservation on the Little Miami River began in the early 1960’s by Bob and June Morgan with the help of their five sons and has continued for three generations. After much deliberation, the Morgan family has announced the closure of Morgan’s Canoe and Outdoor Adventures operations on the Little Miami River. This decision, though difficult, reflects a commitment to the preservation of the river and its surrounding areas. The family expressed their gratitude for the support of their loyal customers over the past six decades.

“The Morgan brothers, our wives, and families would like to personally thank each and every one of our guests who have supported our family business and the Little Miami for these many years,” said Dirk Morgan. “It has been an incredible journey, and while we will no longer be operating along the Little Miami River, our commitment to conservation remains steadfast. We are grateful to the Little Miami Conservancy, ODNR, and the Susanne Geier Peters Foundation for helping us ensure the future of the river.” The Morgan family’s legacy will live on, as the properties will be preserved in perpetuity through the ODNR’s stewardship.

Morgan’s Indiana Location Remains Open

Though the Ohio operations are closing, the Morgan family’s Indiana location on the Whitewater River will continue to operate, offering guests the opportunity to enjoy canoeing and outdoor adventures. Guests who have visited the Little Miami location are encouraged to visit the Indiana location for continued outdoor recreation.
