A Year of Conservation Achievement for the Little Miami State and National Scenic River

"Into the Wild" Program at Loveland HS

2024 is quickly coming to a close and The Little Miami Conservancy (LMC) is celebrating some key accomplishments in supporting stewardship of the Little Miami State and National Scenic River.

LMC's accomplishments could not happen without the generousity of donors and volunteers who love the Little Miami State and National Scenic River as much as the public it serves.

Whether fishing, hiking, biking, or simply enjoying life along the riverbank, the Little Miami River provides something for all.

This past year the Little Miami Conservancy made significant progress including:

  • Opening a new public trail at LMC’s Tecumseh Nature Preserve in partnership with ODNR’s newest State Park – Great Council State Park in Oldtown, Ohio.

  • Protecting over one mile of stream and riparian forest habitat in Warren County.  Thanks to a generous donation, LMC was able to place a Conservation Easement on 25 acres along First Creek, a tributary to Todd’s Fork and the Little Miami State and National Scenic River.

  • Educating thousands of kids and adults about the river’s ecosystem through fishing and conservation programs, held at the LMC River Center, at numerous schools, and on the river.

  • Sharing the lives of an eagle family with millions of viewers through our online Bald Eagle Live camera.

  • Continuing to monitor the health of the river by sampling for the presence of fish and freshwater mussels using Environmental DNA (eDNA) and 24-hour monitoring for levels of dissolved oxygen that is required for healthy animal populations.

  • Putting over 100 volunteers to work at river cleanups removing over 100 tires and six tons of trash from the river.

Since 1967, LMC has been the hard at work, providing leadership, resources, and public engagement to restore and protect the Little Miami River for generations to come.  While 2024 was a banner year, LMC is already hard at work, planning to meet 2025’s goals, keeping the river ecologically pristine for all to enjoy.

Thank you for your past support. Keep following our progress into 2025 and beyond.
